Adventures & Anecdotes: Tyranny of Dragons - The Cast

Before we dive headlong into the misadventures of the Four Horsemen (more on that team name in a later post) let's take a minute to introduce the cast of characters we'll meet along the way. This story is based loosing on the Tyranny of Dragons adventure, but has been modified for a homebrew campaign.

I will be giving very brief introductions to each of the characters below with snippets of their backstory but maintaining any secrets that have yet to be revealed in game (this is an ongoing campaign).

The Players:

Arkavel

Race: Water Genasi - Male

Class: Wizard

Background: Guild Artisan / Merchant

Arkavel was born and raised at sea, spending his early years working as a sailor. During his tenure, he began to learn the art of smithing from a Dwarven shipmate and found his passion. In time Arkavel realized a life at sea was not for him and left it behind to become a merchant and study the arcane arts. For the past ten years he has worked as a merchant for the Artisan's Guild, practicing with imbuing his creations with his arcane knowledge. Our journey begins with him on a long dusty road, making a routine delivery of goods to the town of Greenest.

Cupidious

Race: Aarakocra - Male

Class: Ranger

Background: Outlander

Little is known about the mysterious Cupidious, even to himself. Due to circumstances beyond their control, his parents abandoned him when he was still very young. Cupidious has survived on his own in the wild for nearly the whole of his life with precious few memories of the family who left him behind. His only possession in the world is a small locket that belonged to his mother. He keeps it close always, a reminder of a life he could have had, and a family he never knew.

Amarthorn

Race: Half-Elf

Class: Warlock

Background: Haunted One

Amarthorn is a mystery to those in his company. He prefers to keep his private affairs private and only divulge what is absolutely necessary. What is known is that at some point, though for what reason only he knows, he entered into a pact with the devil Lerissa who granted him his arcane powers. Since then he has traveled across the realm seeking adventure and tying up some loose ends for his patron along the way. Amarthorn has decided to test his meddle and has been tracking a dragon that has been terrorizing the local villages. He has tracked it for weeks, finally catching up to it at the town of Greenest.

Hjolnar

Race: Dwarf - Male

Class: Barbarian

Background: Outlander

Hjolnar hails from the Dwarven city of Farhelm, once one of the mightiest Dwarven cities in all the realm before the great fall. Legends and stories abound about the Fall of Farhelm, but none alive were there to witness its destruction. Hjolnar was away during the massacre, returning home to find his city burning and his people dead. The only clue to what happened were the bodies of a handful of Dueregar, the ancient enemies of the Dwarves. Hjolnar has set out on a mission to discover exactly what brought his grand Dwarven city to its knees and to recover the Crescent of the Dragon, an artifact stolen during the siege.

Notable NPCs

Percival Oslan Whitehall
Race: Human - Male
Class: Cleric
Background: Waterdhavion Noble

Percival is a mysterious fellow with an even more mysterious past. He meets the players early on, but under a false name. Their paths have crossed many times and his part in the grand scheme of things is yet to be determined.

Lerissa
Race: Erinyes - Female
Class: N/A
Background: Unknown

Lerissa is an Erinyes of unusual power. She has struck a deal with Amarthorn, granting him his warlock abilities and tasking him with various missions that seem to revolve around hunting down and exterminating demonic incursions. Her motivations are unclear, but it is obvious she has her own game that she's playing.
