The Descent: To Hell With Savings
Wow! What a weekend! Not only did we get an amazing weekend full of great streams but we also learned about not one, not two, but five new D&D products! In future posts I want to dive a little deeper into my thoughts on each of these, but for now let's take a look at the overview of goodies coming our way soon.
First, and what I am personally most excited about, we have a brand new adventure that explores the first layer of the Nine Hells. I have always been interested in the cosmic side of D&D, and especially anything dealing with demons, devils, or the Blood War so this product is right up my alley. It seems this adventure will run from levels 1 through 13 which should make for an interesting climax if the goal is to ultimately confront Zariel (who sports a challenge rating of 26 in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes). What is perhaps more interesting is that the book's official name is "Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus" so it will be fun to see how the adventurers go from the shady streets of Baldur's Gate to the hellscape of Avernus.
Next we have what is essentially a new starter set, dubbed the "D&D Essentials Kit". This boxed set will include a new rulebook that is designed to facilitate new players in character creation by focusing on a limited selection of classes such as bard, cleric, fighter, rogue, and wizard. In addition to that, this set will also feature variant rules for running a single player game, which could be incredibly handy for people who struggle to find a group to play with. But what do you do with all your brand new characters? Well run them through the new starting adventure Dragon of Icespire Peak of course! There's more swag in the box as well, but we'll dive deeper on a future post.
If you haven't played Dungeon Mayhem yet you're really missing out. They have announced the first official expansion to this fun little party game in the form of Battle for Baldur's Gate. I'll cover the details in a future post as well as give an overview of the base game for the uninitiated.
I'll be honest, I'm not a Rick & Morty fan so this next piece of news didn't do much for me though I know it will delight a lot of readers. Following the success of the comic series, Wizard and Adult Swim have teamed up to produced a new adventurer that lets players fully engross themselves in the world of Rick & Morty. It seems to be a shorter adventure, running only from levels 1-3 and designed for a max of 5 players.
Finally, we got the announcement of a new hardcover book that will further explore the world of Eberron. There aren't too many details on this yet but it doesn't come as much of a surprise after the release of Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron released last year, which always felt like playtest material to me. Many people have been clamoring for a new setting for 5th Edition and it looks like they'll be getting their wish. Whether this book contains an adventure, or acts strictly as a setting book is not yet clear.
That's it for now! Keep your eyes peeled for more as I dive a little deeper into the above announcements!
Till next we roll,
